Wagga Wagga, NSW, will play host to the Junior Road National Championships September/October 2020 (Dates TBC). The Championships are expected to attract over 300 of the best under 15 & under 17 riders, and their families, from all over Australia.

The three days of racing will see 12 national champions crowned with titles contested in the road race, time trial and criterium. This year will also see the introduction of the team time trial for the first time.

“We're really looking forward to seeing the City of Wagga Wagga host this event. It’s fantastic to be racing in the iconic Riverina city and we can’t wait to take advantage of everything on offer” said Cycling Australia General Manager of Sport, Kipp Kaufmann.

He added “In 2019, we saw some fantastic racing from the U15 & U17 riders and we are looking forward to seeing quality fields again in 2020.”

Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Greg Conkey OAM said it was fantastic to see the city being selected for the national championships.
“Wagga Wagga has a growing reputation for hosting more major sporting events on a regular basis,” Cr Conkey said.

“Our track record for hosting top level fixtures in recent years is proven and that means we are getting all sports knocking on our city’s door wanting to utilise Wagga as an ideal location with excellent facilities.

“Hosting the 2020 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships is a coup for Wagga Wagga, and expands on our intention to develop the city as a regional cycling capital.

“With an annual cycling event such as Gears and Beers, and the development of the Active Travel Plan cycling routes and multi-sport cycling centre at Pomingalarna being developed, Wagga is well placed for hosting this three-day event.”

"Wagga Wagga Cycling Club is proud to be the host club of the 2020 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships. The club has a proud history of holding high quality racing, and the city has a fantastic history of supporting them.

We look forward to working with Cycling Australia and the City of Wagga Wagga to deliver the Championships in September.” said Wagga Wagga CC Publicity Officer Cameron Oke
The 2020 Junior Road National Championships will also be the final round of the National Junior Road Series.
Further information regarding courses, regulations on the team time trial, road closures and entries to come closer to the event.
