The opening day of the 2019 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championship saw riders from all over Australia enjoy a beautiful rolling time trial course through the picturesque Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast.

JW15 Individual Time Trial
The Under 15 Women were the first to roll out, with twenty riders gunning for gold. The competition was fierce, with only half a minute separating riders in the top 5 positions.

With an impressive +27.30 lead, Keira Will (NSW) took the junior individual time trial crown, with the second and third steps on the JW15 podium were reserved for NSW individual time trial champions with Bronte Stewart taking bronze and Belinda Bailey (VIC) taking silver. Stewart and Bailey were separated by only half a second.

Keira Wills said, “It was a tough course with a fair few hills, but I enjoy climbing so the course was in my favour. I am very happy with my result today, and it was great to join Bronte who is the current new south wales State time trial champion on the podium” said Wills.

JM15 Individual Time Trial
The under 15 men saw the tightest finish of the day, with the top seven riders coming in under a minute a part, and only 2 seconds separating gold and silver.
Oscar Chamberlain was crowned the under 15 male individual time trial national champion. Chamberlain was joined on the podium by Benjamin Anderson (NSW) in second place, and Jamie Coles (VIC) who finished under +10seconds behind Chamberlain winning bronze.

There was some healthy competition between rivals Benjamin Anderson (NSW) and Oscar Chamberlain (ACT).

“At the New South Wales Individual Time Trial State Championships, Benjamin beat me by 1 second, and today I beat Benjamin by 2 seconds. It felt pretty great to win, and stand on top of the podium as the 2019 Australian Individual Time Trial Champion” said Chamberlain.

JW17 Individual Time Trial
Alyssa Polites (VIC) took to the top step of the Under 17 Women’s Individual Time Trial Podium after crossing the finish line with less than four seconds up her sleeve.

The Victorian Individual Time Trial State Champion and Cycling Australia Individual Time Trial National Champion described the out and back time trial course as enjoyable yet challenging.

“The course was really hilly, but it allowed me to pick up the pace on the way back. The conditions were pretty good, and there wasn’t much wind” said Polites.
New South Wales rider Haylee Fuller joined Polites on the podium in second place, while Lucinda Stewart completed the Under 17 Women’s podium in third place.

JM 17 Individual Time Trial
New South Welshman Dylan Eather started his Junior Road National Championships campaign on a high after being crowned under 17 men’s australian individual time trial Champion.

“I won the New South Wales individual time trial by 34 seconds, and today at the Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships, I won the by 15 seconds” said Eather.

Victorian rider Zac Kelly and Tasmanian rider Dalton Stretton joined Eather on the podium in second and third place respectively.
